I Will Always Write Back: How One Letter Changed Two Lives by Caitlin Alifirenka & Martin Ganda

I Will Always Write Back is a memoir by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda. This book is told from the point of view of Caitlin and Martin who become pen pals when Caitlin's 7th grade teacher gives her and her classmates an assignment to write to kids from different parts of the world. Martin ends up getting Caitlin's letter and his teacher tells him to write back to her and this starts a lifelong friendship between the two children and they basically grow up together and eventually meet in real life. Caitlin lives in Hatfield Pennsylvania and Martin Lives in Zimbabwe. The book starts in 1997 when Caitlin is 12 years old and Martin is 14 years old. This is also a story about how Caitlin and Martin started a great friendship and became better people through many letters over their time in school.

This is a really great book that I enjoyed reading because it is a heartwarming story about and unlikely friendship. I also like how the story is told from both Caitlin and Martin's point of view because you get to walk through each of their journeys as they get older. You also get to see how different their problems were since they lived in two completely different parts of the world and very different backgrounds. I would recommend this book to people who like personal narratives and people age 12 and up.

I would rate this book an 8.5 out of 10 because it is very interesting book and it has a great message.

  1. This sounds so sweet! I love how you mention that Caitlin and Martin are very different since they lived in separate parts of the world and originated from different backgrounds, but were still able to bond and become friends. It's also so nice how they helped each other grow and flourish through each other's letters! Also, I'm assuming this book is a true story about the author's actual experiences, and I think it's also so uplifting that they ended up writing a book together! This book seems very heartwarming and positive, and I will definitely give it a read :)
