*This review is based only on the content of the books and not the author*
I started reading Harry Potter in third grade because I knew it was a popular book series and I decided to give it a shot. I enjoyed the series at the time but now I realize that I did not like it as much as I thought. One thing that made me not like the series as much was the fifth book of the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This book felt like reading a book that had no content until the very end when the big battle that kills Sirius Black happens. The book was also extremely long and was hard to get through. This made me mad because he was one of my favorite characters. I also did not like how many people died throughout the series. I think some of the deaths were important but I think Fred and Dobby's death were unnecessary and sad. Another reason why I was not a big fan of the Harry Potter series is the amount of characters. I liked that there were different characters that had different backgrounds, but I think some of the secondary characters were unimportant and did not contribute to the story. I also think that because there were so many characters, it was hard to keep track of who was who and how they were important to the story line.
Although I am not a big fan of the Harry Potter series now, there was a time where I did enjoy reading the books and talking about them with my friends. This book series also taught me to not read books because everyone else was reading them because I might not find the books interesting even if a lot of people do. If I were to rate the Harry Potter series, I would rate it a 5.75/10. This is because some of the books had a lot of filler and were hard to continue reading. I also think some of the secondary characters were not necessary and did not add to the quality of the storyline. I don't think people shouldn't read this series, but I think they would have to be very interested in the plot of the books to enjoy the series fully.
Overall, I think Harry Potter could have been better if it had less filler and more quality content that added to the story. I also think that this is a decent book series that people should read, but it does not deserve all the hype it gets.

Hi Chizara, I really liked your blog post! I thought it was interesting how you highlighted that the books had a lot of filler and I agree, a lot of the scenes seem unnecessary like the deaths. I do have a question though: do you think Lupin and Tonks death added or were just unneeded?
ReplyDeleteHi Chizara!
ReplyDeleteThe title was a wonderful hook, and I clicked on this right away. I loved Harry Potter when I was in elementary school, but I understand not liking it as much when older. Your post was very thoughtful about the characters and aspects you found overrated, good job!
I also heard about Harry Potter books from my friends but I never actually read them. Personally, I think Harry Potter is one of those books or films that the community hypes which is how it becomes famous. Seeing how you gave your thoughts on Harry Potter seems like my theory is correct, but maybe I might try reading it too for my own thoughts and opinions.
ReplyDeleteI read Harry Potter and watched the movies and I firmly preferred the movies over the books. The movies were so much more entertaining instead of the books.
