Painter's writing is engaging and witty, and she has created a cast of lovable and relatable characters that you can't help but root for. Liz is a strong and determined protagonist who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, even if it means going against the norms of her society. Wes, on the other hand, is a hilarious and charming character who provides the perfect comic relief throughout the book. What sets "Better Than the Movies" apart from other YA romance novels is its focus on friendship and self-discovery, in addition to the romantic storyline. Painter explores the theme of self-acceptance beautifully through Liz's journey, as she learns to love and accept herself for who she is, flaws and all.
Overall, "Better Than the Movies" is a delightful and heartwarming book that will make you laugh, cry, and fall in love. It is a must-read for fans of young adult romance novels and anyone who has ever dreamed of finding their own movie-worthy love story.

Hi Cali, this sounds like an interesting book. I find it intriguing that this book focuses a lot more on friendships compared to other YA novels. It's a nice break from the constant focus on the need for romantic love.
ReplyDeleteHi Cali, this book sounds pretty interesting. I'm usually not into YA romance novels because of all the love, but this book sounds like a really funny and overall great read with a good cast of characters. I might check this one out later.
ReplyDeleteHi Cali, this review made "Better Than the Movies" seem like a really interesting romcom book without spoiling any information.
ReplyDeleteAs a movie watcher myself, the line between fiction and reality definitely calls for some thought. Your focus on the characters rather than the plot I think really proves the importance of people, not actions, which is something movies will always lack. Great post!
ReplyDeleteHey Cali, this is a good review!
